Off-Hours Orders and Your Funded Account Qualification
search.svg

trader2B allows certain orders to be entered while the U.S. stock market is closed. These orders are held by the platform and are submitted for execution when the regular market opens.

However, we strongly advise traders not to rely on off-hours order entry as a regular trading strategy.

The purpose of the ToroChallenge® is not only to reach a profit target. It is also to demonstrate that your trading behavior can reasonably transition to a live funded account using real capital.

Why off-hours orders can be a concern

Regular U.S. stock market hours are 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time.

When you enter an order while the market is closed, you are making a trading decision without seeing the live market conditions that will exist when the order is actually released.

A stock may close at one price and open the following morning significantly higher or lower because of news, earnings, economic announcements, analyst actions, overnight market activity, or other events.

This means an order entered several hours before the market opens may receive a very different execution than the trader expected.

Sometimes that difference may work in the trader’s favor. Other times it may result in a significant loss.

The concern from a funding perspective is that repeatedly benefiting from overnight price movements does not necessarily demonstrate how the trader will manage live market risk once real capital is involved.

How this can affect funded account qualification

Passing the numerical requirements of the ToroChallenge® does not necessarily mean that every trading pattern will be considered suitable for a funded account.

As part of the qualification review, trader2B may review how the account was traded.

We may look at factors such as:

How frequently orders were entered while the market was closed compared with orders entered during regular market hours.
Whether a significant portion of profits resulted from orders entered before the trader could observe the live market.
Whether the trader repeatedly used a large percentage of available buying power on off-hours orders.
Whether trading activity demonstrates the ability to make decisions and manage risk during the live U.S. market session.
Whether the trader’s overall behavior appears reasonably transferable to a live funded account.

Entering an occasional order outside market hours does not automatically disqualify an account.

However, if off-hours orders become a significant part of the trader’s activity, especially if most of the trader’s profits or buying-power exposure comes from those orders, it may affect the funded account review.

Off-hours orders should not be your primary trading activity

As a general guideline, the number of orders entered outside regular market hours should be lower than the number of orders entered while the market is open.

For example, if a trader enters most of their orders overnight and very few orders while actively observing the live market, that trading history may not give trader2B enough confidence that the same performance can be reproduced safely with real capital.

We want to see that traders can participate in and respond to the actual live market, rather than primarily placing orders in advance and depending on the opening price.

Be especially careful with buying power

Using most or all of your available buying power on an order entered while the market is closed can create additional risk.

For example, suppose a trader has a $100,000 account and enters an order using nearly the full $100,000 of buying power late at night.

The trader may be basing the decision on the previous closing price, but the stock could open several percent away from that price the following morning.

The trader has therefore committed nearly all available buying power without being able to observe the market immediately before execution.

This type of behavior may be considered during the funded-account qualification review.

What trader2B recommends

We encourage traders to place the majority of their orders during regular U.S. market hours while actively monitoring the market.

Off-hours order entry should be used sparingly and should not become the primary method used to complete the ToroChallenge®.

A trader preparing for a funded account should demonstrate trading behavior that can reasonably continue once the account is trading real U.S. equities with real capital.

Example

Consider two traders who both reach the same profit target.

Trader A enters most trades between 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM ET, monitors prices in real time, adjusts position sizes based on market conditions, and manages risk throughout the session.

Trader B enters most orders late at night using a large percentage of available buying power. The orders are held until the following morning, and several profitable overnight gaps help the trader reach the profit target.

Both traders may have reached the same numerical profit goal, but their trading histories demonstrate very different approaches to managing live market risk.

This is one of the reasons trader2B reviews how the account was traded, not only the final P&L.

Does one off-hours order cause a problem?

No.

We understand that a trader may occasionally prepare or enter an order outside normal trading hours.

The concern is a repeated pattern, particularly when off-hours orders represent a substantial portion of the trader’s activity, profits, or buying-power usage.

Will off-hours orders still count?

Orders that are accepted and executed according to the ToroChallenge® rules may still be reflected in the account’s trading results.

However, meeting the numerical requirements alone does not guarantee funded-account approval. Trading activity is subject to review before a live funded account is activated.

Our recommendation

Do not build your ToroChallenge® strategy around off-hours orders.

Trade primarily while the U.S. market is open, monitor the live market, manage your positions actively, and demonstrate the type of trading behavior you intend to use when managing a funded account.

The ToroChallenge® is designed to identify traders who can transition from simulated evaluation to responsible trading with real capital.
